O Consulado Geral dos Estados Unidos no Rio de Janeiro e o Instituto Cultural Brasil Estados Unidos (ICBEU- BH) trazem para Belo Horizonte o trabalho do mais renomado fotógrafo mundial na temática indígena. A exposição “Visions of Native Americans” do norte-americano Edward S. Curtis - pioneiro em revelar os costumes dos índios norte-americanos. São imagens que mostram a sua arte no retrato e na paisagem, tanto em passagens da vida cotidiana como nos rituais indígenas.

Sobre o artista:

Edward Sheriff Curtis nasceu no Estado de Wisconsin no ano de 1868. Seu interesse por fotografia aumentou depois que sua família se mudou para uma região no oeste dos Estados Unidos, chamada Puget Sound - perto de Seattle - no Estado de Washington. Curtis ficou fascinado com os índios norte-americanos de Puget Sound. Aprendeu a arte fotográfica sozinho construindo até sua própria máquina fotográfica, depois de estudar a lente de um estereoscópio, embora não tenha estudado além da oitava série do curso primário.

The United States Consulates from Rio de Janeiro and Instituto Cultural Brasil Estados Unidos (ICBEU-BH) bring to Belo Horizonte the works of the the world renowed photgrapher about native themes. It's the exposition “Visions of Nature Americans” by the North American Edward Curtis, one of the first photographers to reveal the native Americans way of life. They are images thar depect his skill in portraits and landscapes, not only showing the natives daily life but also their ritual.

About the artist:

Edward Sherif Curtis was brougth up in the state of Wisonsin in 1868. His interesting in photography increased when his family moved to a region in the west of the United State called Puget Sound, near to Seattle, in Washington. Curtis became fascinated by the natives of Puget Sound. He learned the art of photography alone, even waking his own camera, after studying the lens of a stereoscopic, although he studied only up to the 8th grade of elementary school.
